Become a Tutor

Polokwane Tutors are currently accepting applications to join our growing team of face-to-face and online tutors whom we offer:

  • A competitive hourly rate of pay related to grades taught.
  • Enhanced rate of pay for weekend lessons.
  • Ability for tutors to choose the subjects and grades they tutor – from Grade R to 12, University levels and adults. Experience with the chosen subjects and grades is required.
  • Ability for tutors to choose their own hours which they are available for tutoring.
  • Ability for tutors to choose the areas of Polokwane they travel to for face-to-face home tuition lessons.
  • Ability to choose to provide online tuition via Skype, alongside face-to-face tuition.
  • Ability to continue providing lessons to your own privately sourced learners/clients, alongside tutoring with Polokwane Tutors.

Polokwane Tutors are looking for part-time tutors for 2024 who meet the following requirements:

  • Have the desire to work one-on-one with learners and be passionate about enabling learners to improve their academic performance and achieve the best they can, whilst also helping to build the learner’s confidence, self-belief and love of learning.
  • Know various methods to build a learner’s self-confidence and experience applying these various methods.
  • Know different learning styles and have awareness and experience applying suitable tutoring and/or teaching methods for different learning styles.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the content of the subjects to be tutored.
  • Have the ability to plan lessons and provide the lesson material.
  • Be available to provide between 3 and 8 hours of tuition per week. (Tutors choose the days and times they are available to offer tuition but Polokwane Tutors is unable to offer any guaranteed hours of work).
  • Have reliable timekeeping skills and be able to commit to lesson schedules.
  • Be able to follow verbal and written instructions, given in English, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Be able to provide the key phrase during their interview which is attention to detail. 
  • Have basic computer literacy skills and have your own, personal, email address.
  • Have a minimum of 6 months of tutoring and/or teaching experience, if holding or studying for a Diploma or Bachelor of Education or PGCE, or holding or studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in the tuition subjects to be offered.
  • Or, have a minimum of 12 months of tutoring and/or teaching assistant experience, if holding Matric with a minimum of 60% in the tuition subjects to be offered.
  • Be able to provide contact details of a minimum of 2 tutoring/teaching references and 1 character reference.
  • Be able to provide an Afiswitch Extract from the South African Police Service Criminal Database, showing no convictions identified, no older than 3 months at the time of successful appointment as a Polokwane Tutors part-time tutor.
  • Be a South African citizen or have a valid passport and visa/permit allowing the applicant to work in South Africa.
  • Be residing in Polokwane, Mankweng or Seshego, and be able to travel to learners’ homes, or alternative specified lesson venues, in or around Polokwane using own transport or public transport to provide one-on-one home tuition.
  • Have an established source of reliable income as Polokwane Tutors, unfortunately, cannot guarantee the number of learners/hours of work available to tutors. 
  • Optional – To be able to provide one-on-one online video call tuition via Skype, provide proof (from the internet service provider) of uncapped internet service with a minimum 4mb speeds and have sufficient skills to use Skype to provide online video call tuition.
